Abstract

In the first quarter of 2012, with 94.0 million mobile phone shipments, Samsung outperformed Nokia's 84.0 million shipments to secure the dominant position in the global mobile phone market. The reasons behind the downturn of Nokia mobile phones are said to mainly due to its fairly delayed response to consumer demand and its relatively late step in the evolution of operating system, which have become causes for concern with respect to Nokia's future. This report examines the underlying causes behind the downfall of Nokia and performs a comparison between Nokia and Taiwanese leading mobile phone branded vendor HTC in various aspects while pinpointing the differences in challenges that they are, or will be, facing.
